My role was to create a variety of style frames for the FX tv show Better Things title sequence. I created two concepts that follow the FX title style and branding energy. Other FX tv shows that influenced the designs are Feud (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIlaOajamlk), The Americans (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9Ejy9sNrOo), and Man Seeking Woman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4hL6uuLETs).
Sam is constantly going through internal obstacles, whether it comes to her family, job or love life, making her the colorful and witty woman that she is. For these style frame, different textures, and patterns create a silhouette of Sam. An abstraction of the experiences, emotions, and thoughts that she embodies. The design elements can also be used dynamically for credit and promo treatments, utilizing typeface, color, and shapes.
This concept is driven by iconography that presented throughout the show. Each icon and composition represents environmental or specific aspects of Sams life. For example, Sams inability to have peace and how she constantly gets news that affects her life, from her phone. The icons are subtle representations of her relationship with herself and others.
